WHAT ARE ZOIDS?
IN THE BEGINNING...
In 1981, Tomy corporation of Japan released a line of 3 small model kits. Once these kits were built, they could be wound up and would walk off. These were the Mechabonica. The next year, Mechabonica were released in the USA under the name Zoids. These Zoids were brought back to Japan in 1983 with new additions. The Zoids model selection grew with the releases of larger, battery powered kits. Zoids spread to the US and UK where various Zoid 'offspring were formed, such as Zoids2 and Robo-Strux.
In the early '90s Zoids started to die out, but in 1999 they made a comeback. Tomy brought back Zoids, this time with fresh new colours, new models, a comic and an anime series...
WHAT MAKES ZOIDS SO GREAT?
Zoids are easy to build with the help of the always clear and simple instructions. No glue is needed, and once you're done have to do is wind it up or flick the switch and let it stomp away!
Zoids has spread into so many areas (models, comics, anime, games...) that there's something to appeal to everyone. And who can resist giant robots blowing each other up?
WHAT'S THE ZOIDS STORY?
On the back of the Japanese boxes there is the battle story. This story is set on the planet Zi. There are variations on this story, such as that in the Zoids Graphics.
There are other stories as well, such as the old UK comics, set on Zoids Star, and various Japanese comics. Zoids Generations was another story that appeared in the Dengeki Hobby Magazine.
The Zoids animes are probably the most well-known of the Zoids stories. Currently there are 4 Zoids anime series; Chaotic Century/Guardian Force, New Century\0, Fuzors and Genesis.
